In his day job, Harold Urcun delivers great work on short deadlines, including a lot of coding, design and animation. He’s also a gifted musician and multi-instrumentist who collects rare equipment and can jam for hours with friends or alone. But he won’t send you any of it. Ever.

You couldn’t even guess he’s a musician at all unless you actually went to his apartment, sat in his home studio where the shelves are filled with handmade instruments, rare flutes and ukuleles, unmarked controllers, ultra specific microphones, and a few keyboards. There he will bring you a cup of tea, and his cat—whose tail is in a perfect square angle shape—will come and smell you to determine if it’s OK for you to be there.

As the tea starts brewing, time slows down. He plays a mellow melody on the piano and loops it. Plays an ethereal riff on the karimba and loops it. Plays with dub effects. He creates the language of plants talking to each other at night; the thoughts of minerals being taken into rivers; the lullaby an oyster hums for its pearl.

It might go for a minute, it might go for an hour. But he will never press record, unless lobbied hard and MAYBE he will share a private soundcloud upload with less than 3 people, and take it down before you can listen a second time.

En Suspens is Urcun’s first official release. A quarter of an hour spent in a place without humans. Without animals, maybe.

3 alternative versions bring it into the city, like a scene from a video projected on raw walls. 608 ZZ label founder Nicolas Malinowsky plays it in a dark alley while anxiously waiting for a taxi, and Paul Allard delivers two mixes for the warehouse goers.
